Toddler Apps for the iPad!

When we travel, I always bring the iPad because, let's face it, at some point, I want my child to do something other than watch movies.  And the reality is, my son has a limit of about two hours before he tires of cartoons and movies.

Today I'm sharing some of apps that we've tried and tested on the iPad. When I let my son use the iPad, I prefer that he plays with games that are interactive and, if possible, educational.  My son will be three in a week, but we've been playing with several of these apps since he turned two and a half.  With the exception of the Tangrams and Tiny Space, I get the sense that I'll need to "graduate" to more challenging applications in the near future.

Here's what his page on my iPad looks like at the moment.  I'll be highlighting four of the apps below, although at the moment, my son enjoys all of them.

Easy Weekend

Although it was Father's Day weekend, we kept our schedule simple and easy.  We spent alot of time at home, working on this and that project, and snuck out for a few meals.  Because of my morning sickness, I'm still not cooking very much so we continue our trend of eating out.  I think my favorite meal of the weekend was a nice big bowl of ramen from one of our favorite Japanese restaurants... and I'm choosing that ramen over what I had at the nice restaurant we went to for Father's Day!  That's saying something about my eating mindset right now.

I hope your weekend was a good one too!

Denver Nature and Science Museum

Meet Mr. Bones -- a walking dinosaur that was a hit with the kids!

One of our favorite places to go in Denver is the Denver Nature and Science Museum.  Recently, the museum renovated the "Discovery Zone" which is a designated area for kids ages 5 and younger (although kids older than five are allowed).

To celebrate the reopening of the Discovery Zone, the museum held a few members-only afternoons and evenings.  I jumped right on the chance and reserved spots for us earlier this week and I'm so glad I did.  It was a great evening where my son and I got spend some time doing something special and it was a good night for it -- my husband had a work event that kept him out  late that night.

We checked out all the new exhibits and surprisingly, my son's favorite was the mini-theater where a speaker led the kids through an interactive presentation.  We attended a bunch of them: Animal Tracks, Into Space, and Through the Seasons.

My favorite part was the fancy dinner buffet.  While my son munched on chicken nuggets and tater tots, I got to enjoy roasted chicken with steamed vegetables, mashed potatoes and gravy.  Dessert?  Creme brulee!

Water Zone was lots of fun but not novel enough my little guy.
Circle time at the interactive theater.  I love that my son sits still nowadays.
Not bad for dinner at a nature & science museum.

WIAW #10: First Trimester Eats

It's been over a month since I've participated in a What I Ate Wednesday with Jenn at Peas and Crayons.  I've been in a hiding for awhile thanks to some serious morning sickness woes as I'm almost through my first trimester.

If you're new to my blog, it might be helpful to know that I've been eating Paleo since February of this year.  It was an accidental change in how I eat -- and I only made the transition after reading various blogs about the Whole30 and Paleo -- and it was the best accident I've ever made.  After struggling for three years with my weight after becoming a mom, eating Paleo helped me get back down to a weight that I could be happy with.

Where I've Been

Dear blogosphere friends:

I've been gone for two and a half weeks.  I pretty much fell off the face of the earth with no warning and I've been dying to get back to blogging as I've missed sharing my days with all of you and hearing what's going on in your lives!

So where have I been?  In morning sickness hell.
Ultrasound from May 27, 2014.  Nine weeks pregnant.
On May 9th, some of you caught my sneaky admission (buried way at the bottom of a post) that I'd recently learned that I was pregnant.  My husband and I have been trying to get pregnant since last summer and we've miscarried at least once since then, so I didn't want to come out and share the news until we were close to the end of the first trimester.

Well, I didn't have to worry about spilling too early abut this good news because shortly after my last post (May 21) my morning sickness became so unbearable I had to swear off the computer, watching television, and reading books.

It's been a difficult 2-3 weeks to say the least.

I've been sleeping 9-10 hours a night and then napping 3-4 hours during the day.  I've spent alot of time laying in a dark room with audiobooks to keep me company.  I've been drinking gallons of ginger ale and eating more saltines than I care to admit.  I will be at the end of my first trimester by the end of this week.

This past weekend was the first weekend that I was able to get out of the house and spend a full day with my son and husband.  I hope this is a sign that I'll be able to return to blogging.  I have alot of catching up to do!

Thank you to those of you who contacted me to see where I've been during my disappearance!
